BACK TO BASICS – What are our Ingredients?

When we began making our own products it was with the intention of making natural, affordable products that were kind to your skin.  For this reason we have only ever used plant oils and butters and have never added water to our formulas, making our skincare un-aqueous.

Our skincare is completely free from parabens, emulsifiers, preservatives and Sodium Laureth Sulphate making it perfect for sensitive skins.

Our base ingredient in our hand creams, balms and body butter is Shea Butter.

What is Shea Butter?

Shea butter is a fat extracted from the nuts (actually the stone of a plum like fruit) of the shea tree, which is native to Africa.  The nuts are collected, cracked, roasted, and then ground into a paste. This paste is then kneaded and boiled to extract the fat, which solidifies into shea butter as it cools.

The whole process is done by hand, we use Co-operatives that were set up to help women and their families train in production, manufacturing and distribution enabling them to earn a fair wage to improve the living conditions, schooling and medical provisions within their villages.

Why we use it in our formulas:

Shea butter is rich in fatty acids, naturally containing oleic acid, linoleic acid, vitamins A and E.

It has excellent moisturising properties, helping to hydrate the skin and lock in moisture, that is why you find that when you use our products your skin feels and looks nourished for longer, even after just one application, it gives your skin a chance to heal, we never claim to turn back the clock, we are all about keeping your skin feeling as healthy as it can be once you take into consideration your diet, your genes and your lifestyle.
